WHY ARE WE HANDING OUT REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES INSTEAD OF DISPOSABLE BOTTLED WATER?
In the US alone, over 40 billion plastic bottles were dumped into landfills in 2007. Each bottle takes 1,000 years to break down. The production, transportation, and disposal of these non-reusable plastic and paper drinking containers can have an increasingly adverse impact on our environment as space for landfills declines.

WHY ARE WE GIVING REUSABLE COTTON GROCERY BAGS TO OUR RUNNERS?
Because reusable high quality cloth grocery bags and offset significant environmental harm and eliminate a portion of our waste stream. Fourteen plastic bags contain enough petroleum to drive a car one mile. Paper bags do not biodegrade in landfills due to lack of oxygen.

Our first race is runterra 8K and 1K fun run in Gaithersburg, MD on March 29, 2009.  At runterra races you'll enjoy some of the best green events in the country  with hundreds of eco-friendly vendors.  Runners also receive a cool reusable grocery bag filled with sponsor giveaways, and we'll even plant a tree for every runner to help off-set your carbon footprint.  Plus, you can have your bib mailed to you!!
